DIY Laundry Detergent

This is the second year that I have made laundry detergent. After using the entire first batch, I can officially say that this stuff works great. My clothes are just as clean as they have always been, and they smell nice too. This "recipe" cost me around $17.00 (with a few coupons) and makes enough to last my husband and I over a year. That is so much cheaper than buying it! All of these products work in the HE washers as well. All you need is 6 products that can be found at Walmart/Publix and about 10 minutes of time. The hardest part is grating the soap!

What you'll need:
1 box Borax
1 box Arm and Hammer Washing Soda
1 bar Zote soap (can also use Fels Naptha)
1 box stain fighting powder (Oxy Clean, Biz, Purex)
1 container Purex crystals
1 (4 lb) box Baking soda
A very large container to mix it in (I used my sink)

Grate your soap using a fine grater. Mix in all other products well.

Use 2 Tbs of powder per wash.

Enjoy your savings!

  1. I made this and love it! I found Zote flacks. The box equals two bars of Zote. I put it in a food processor to make it fine. Thanks for sharing.
