Ruffled Onesie

I love to sew cute little onesies for my pregnant friends! I made this onesie for a sweet friend at work and here is how you can make one as well!

What you'll need:
1 onesie (I used a plain white one, but Walmart has some cute prints!)
3 coordinating fabrics, 1/4 yard each

The first thing I did was decide how much of the onesie I wanted ruffled. I decided to have 2-1 inch wide ruffles and 1-2 in wide ruffle (See picture below). I made each strip 35 inches long, to give me plenty of length to ruffle with. You have two options on how to get rid of the raw edges. One option is to serge each edge with a machine. For the other way: 1. Make the width of each fabric twice as wide as what you want to ruffle to be. 2. Fold the strip in half with the wrong side facing out. 3. Sew a seam down the length of the fabric close to the raw edges. 4. Flip the tube right side out. This is the method I used (See picture below).

To make the ruffles, I used this method. It was so simple! Basically you run a stitch down the middle of your fabric, pushing the material into the machine faster than it feeds it. (See picture below) These ruffles took minutes to make and looked awesome.

You are almost done! Get excited.

Place your ruffles on the onesie where you want them, then pin them into place (See picture below). I overlapped my ruffles just slightly so there wouldn't be any white showing. At this point you can either hand sew the ruffles onto the onesie or use your machine. If you do use your machine, be careful not to sew the back side of the onesie to the front! I sewed one side of the onesie at a time, making sure that it was pinned correctly before I started a new row or side. Finally, I sewed the sides of each strip together by hand.

Let me know if you have any questions! Get sewing!
